SUMMARY:World War One Memorial Tour
DESCRIPTION:On this special tour\, join former DCPL President Edwin Fountain to learn about the development of the National World War One Memorial in Pershing Park\, opened in 2021. This tour will briefly review the history of Square 226 before delving into the design process behind the creation of this site. The tour will conclude with a narrated review of the new commemorative elements\, including the 58-foot long\, 38-figure bronze sculpture by Sabin Howard entitled A Soldier’s Journey. \nCLICK HERE TO SIGN UP!\nEdwin Fountain is a D.C. based attorney\, was a member of the DCPL board from 2001-2007\, and served as chairman the last three of those years.  In 2008 he co-founded the World War I Memorial Foundation to advocate for funding to restore the D.C. War Memorial on the Mall.  Edwin was later appointed to the U.S. World War I Centennial Commission and was elected its Vice Chair.  In that capacity he led the redevelopment of Pershing Park as the National World War I Memorial.  He is now the general counsel of the American Battle Monuments Commission\, the federal agency which administers 26 American military cemeteries and 60 monuments and memorials in 17 countries around the world.

SUMMARY:World Pride: LGBTQ+ Walking Tour in Dupont Circle (May 31st)
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Pride on a walking tour of queer historic places in the Dupont Circle neighborhood with representatives from the Rainbow History Project\, the DC Preservation League\, and the DC Office of Planning\, Historic Preservation Office. \nThis history is local\, but by nature of being in the nation’s capital\, ties into larger narratives\, debates\, and attacks on the queer community. Join us to learn more about the resilience\, tenacity\, diversity\, and joy of the queer community in Washington\, DC. The tour will be about one mile on flat ground. It will start in Dupont Circle (up Connecticut Avenue\, along S Street\, down 17th Street) and end at 17th and P Streets. This tour is open to all people with a ticket cost of $10.00\, paid online. Registration required to participate. \n \n  \nThis tour is led by Delaney Resweber\, who is the Director of Social Geography and serves on the board with the Rainbow History Project. Since 2000\, the Rainbow History Project has operated as an all-volunteer run nonprofit focused on promoting\, preserving\, and collecting LGBT+ history in Washington DC.
