Belmont-Paul Women’s Equality National Monument Virtual Tour

March 23, 2022 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

Join Ranger Susan Philpott and the DC Preservation League on Wednesday, March 23rd at 12:30pm EST for a virtual tour of the exhibits at the Belmont-Paul Women’s Equality National Monument!

This program will explore Alice Paul’s political savvy and the National Woman’s Party’s transgressive, confrontational tactics in support of woman suffrage. After ratification of the 19th Amendment in 1920, the National Woman’s Party continued to advocate for women’s rights, moving into the 200-year-old house at the corner of Constitution Avenue and 2nd Street, NE in 1929. While the NWP lobbied to change discriminatory laws, supported women running for office, and fought for the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment, they also struggled to preserve the headquarters and their collection of furniture, textiles, artwork, and other artifacts that tell the story of the ongoing struggle for women’s equality.
