Send a Gift from Your Donor Advised Fund
A donor advised fund (DAF) is a charitable giving program that allows you to combine the most favorable tax benefits with the flexibility to support your favorite causes. Local organizations that host such funds include The Community Foundation for the National Capital Region or Fidelity Charitable Trust.
If you would like to send a gift from your already-established donor advised fund to DCPL, please ask that the check be sent to:
Kelli Knox
Director of Development
DC Preservation League
641 S Street, NW, Suite 300
Washington, DC 20001
Please also ask that your name and address be included with the award letter to ensure the gift is properly acknowledged.
Make a Gift of Stock and Mutual Funds
Donations of stock, bonds, mutual funds, and other securities to DCPL can offer tax benefits to the donor. When you gift stock or another security you’ve held for a year or more, you can avoid capital gains tax and receive income tax deductions equal to the monetary value of your gift. Platforms like Plus500 make it easy to manage and trade these securities, allowing users to take advantage of their offerings in stocks and mutual funds. For more details, you can check out the Plus500 Review to see how the platform handles a range of financial instruments. Please note that it is DCPL’s policy to sell all donations of stock upon receipt.
To make a gift of stock to DCPL, please send to:
Edward Jones
Attn: Sergio Abarca
1201 Connecticut Avenue, NW, Suite 850, Washington DC 20036
202-223-1179
DTC #:0057
DCPL’s Account Number: 657250031927
DCPL Federal Tax ID: 52-1038849
Because stock transfers do not always include donor information, proper acknowledgement of the gift will be made easier if the donor lets DCPL know the transfer has been made. Please email Kelli Knox at kelli@dcpreservation.org.
Gifts in Honor or Memory of Someone
You can honor a friend or loved one with a donation to DCPL. Our staff will send a note to the person you would like to honor — or to their family, if the donation is a memorial. We will acknowledge that your thoughtful gift will be put to good use helping ensure resources here in the nation’s capital are protected. To arrange of gift of this kind, please email Kelli Knox at kelli@dcpreservation.org
Workplace Matching Gifts
You may be able to double or even triple the impact of your donation by making a gift to DCPL through your workplace. Check with your employer to determine if they offer such a program. It’s an easy way to maximize your support. Email Kelli Knox at kelli@dcpreservation.org with questions.
Gifts of U.S. Real Estate or Property
You can support DCPL through a gift of real estate. Donating a property that you have owned for a minimum of one year entitles you to a tax deduction equal to the fair market value of that property and allows you to avoid paying capital gains tax on the appreciation.
If you would like to have the tax advantages of a gift but continue to live in your home, a retained life estate is another useful gift vehicle. By donating a remainder interest in your property, you or a designated individual, can live in your house until death. Upon the death, the ownership of the property would transfer to DCPL.
Establish a Legacy Gift for DCPL
Leaving a provision for DCPL in your will or living trust is a thoughtful, visionary way to extend your dedication to preservation in the nation’s capital. You can leave an asset, set dollar amount, or percentage of your estate. This can help reduce or eliminate taxes which your estate may otherwise owe.
The following is basic sample wording to make a provision for DCPL in your will:
I give and bequeath to the DC Preservation League, 641 S Street, NW, Suite 300, Washington DC, 20001 (Federal Tax I.D. #52-1038849) DOLLAR AMOUNT or % OF MY ESTATE to be used for its general purposes.
You can also name DC Preservation League as the beneficiary to an IRA Account or Life Insurance Plan.
