Webinar: DC Preservation Atlas Reveal
The National Preservation Atlas (NPA) is building the first online repository of the country’s historic places and the legal protections they receive. By making preservation data more accessible, it aims to deepen public engagement with our shared histories and encourage their protection.
This webinar uncovers new insights about Washington, DC’s 800+ historic places, now searchable on the National Preservation Atlas interactive map. With federal preservation protections on the chopping block, few places have more at stake than DC, where the NPA has found that a full 29% of city land carries some form of historic designation. Attendees will learn how to get the most out of the NPA’s data tools, examine the spatial impact of historic designation across the city, and understand the regulations and incentives currently safeguarding these properties. The webinar will also cover how DC’s historic sites (and those in neighboring Virginia) may be affected by the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation’s proposal to gut Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
