Washington, DC’s suburban neighborhoods are largely characterized by tradition with stately single-family homes designed in a variety of Revival styles from Colonial to Tudor. In some neighborhoods, isolated examples and small collections of more cutting-edge, Mid-Century Modern houses defy this norm.

Mid-Century Neighborhoods Tour
This tour takes you to several such neighborhoods where Mid-Century Modern houses, built between the late 1940s and early 1970s, are tucked into wooded sites or banked into hillsides. Though each is unique, the houses share common design features like open floor plans, flat and/or sloped roofs, a variety of materials and textures, expansive use of windows, and landscaped terraces and porches that connect the houses to their sites.
